Construction of the Lane Cove Aquatic Centre is progressing smoothly with the recent completion of the swimming pool shell by Crystal Pools. The project is a key community initiative for Lane Cove Council to undertake significant upgrade works to enhance recreation facilities in the precinct.
ACOR is providing structural engineering design and construction advice for the new 50m pool concourse, Grandstand and Youth club facilities. Appointed at the inception phase of the project, the team has worked in collaboration with Team 2 Architects to develop the cost plan and concept options and is currently working with building contractor Icon Co on finalising the grandstand design.
Meticulous coordination has been undertaken with Council, the pool contractor and grandstand design team. Constructability within the confines of a compact site has been a key consideration in the design, minimising disruption to operations so that the remaining recreation facilities can stay open to the public. A structural steel roof has been specially designed to remove view obstructions from the grandstand. Demolition of the site began in early 2019 with project completion due in December 2020.
The pool shell successfully completed water testing in December 2019 with the surplus water being donated and transported to drought-stricken areas in NSW.
