The Amsleigh Park Primary School project in Oakleigh East comprised a major building upgrade and refurbishment that was completed over two stages. Moving from a compartmentalised, linear layout with little visual connection, the classrooms have been reconfigured to integrate the space and modernise the pedagogy. Interconnected classrooms are now subsidised with flexible breakout spaces that can also support team teaching or smaller group exercises depending on the needs of the lesson.
Stage one of the project included a new Junior Learning Centre with eight classrooms, and two project spaces. Decking surrounds the building to provide entry and exit for each learning area whilst incorporating bleacher seating for students and a vantage point for teachers to view the playground during breaktimes.
Stage two refurbished the school’s historic red-brick building, modernising classrooms and administration areas. The design groups learning communities around a central landscaped courtyard, framing a new campus heart and creating space for sensory gardens.
ACOR Consultants worked with Baldasso Cortese to provide Structural & Civil engineering to the redevelopment including the associated landscaping works. The team worked in close collaboration with the architect and school stakeholders to create a contemporary learning environment that will encourage and support the students through their learning journey for many years to come.
