The Police Station and District Headquarters (DHQ) is a new, purpose-built facility to serve the rapidly expanding communities of Caboolture and Moreton. Accommodating over 200 staff, the station and DHQ provides an integrated regional facility that improves operational efficiencies and functionality by combining services within the same precinct. The building frontages share a feature brick façade and a glass-covered entry walkway, strengthening connectivity across each space.

Breakout areas were a key consideration in the design.  A series of open landscape zones provide space for staff to work in small groups or take a breather. Polycarbonate screens filter light and create a buffer from inclement weather.

The main slab structure for the building starts at ground level and the back of the building is suspended over the slope. Plant and infrastructure are strategically located at the undercroft area of the building, utilising the natural sloping topography of the site. The buildings have also been engineered for resilience and have achieved level 4 post-disaster function.

Designed with functionality and value for money in front of mind, the project combines simple and robust engineering alongside a number of sustainability features to minimise long term operational costs. Solutions include roof solar panels and rainwater harvesting tanks.

In addition to providing a highly efficient hydraulic and wet fire service solution, the team undertook ESD modelling of rainwater tanks and provided verification on the payback period which determined that the installation of the rainwater re-use system was commercially viable.  Rainwater is harvested into several steel tanks at the rear of the site which is used to supply toilet flushing, external hose taps and landscape irrigation.

A distinct feature of the precinct is the new Police Memorial, funded largely by the community and delivered as a gesture of goodwill by the design, engineering, and building contractor team.
