Construction is nearing completion at Dawn Fraser Baths. The facility is a nationally significant heritage public tidal swimming enclosure situated on Sydney Harbour in the Balmain area. Inner West Council looked to upgrade the facility in 2019 and maintain the intrinsic character and heritage value of the buildings.
Thanks to the site’s sensitive heritage nature and water location, the project possesses some unique buildability challenges. The project will see the baths’ central pavilion and boardwalk raised 1.25 metres to accommodate rising sea levels, in addition to the construction of new recycled timber pavilions, amenities, kiosk and lighting towers.
The baths will reopen to the public in Summer 2020.
