• 2019 Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) – Excellence in Urban Renewal
  • 2019 Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) – Awards for Excellence for ‘Plan to Place’ Category

The transformational urban renewal initiative was delivered through a partnership between State and Local Government. Located in the heart of the CBD the team implemented a place-based approach to urban renewal, which will contribute towards the long-term prosperity of local businesses and the wider community.

ACOR provided engineering services and also undertook the superintendent role for the project, managing the builder Downer EDI whilst coordinating the consultant team and wider stakeholders from Detailed Design through to practical completion.

The revitalisation included streetscape upgrades to Carnarvon Street and Dampier Terrace which provides new outdoor dining areas for local businesses, lighting, event space, shade canopies, improved access and additional amenities such as water bubblers and bike storage.  The project was officially opened in May 2019 and the positive change is evident with an increased sense of community ownership resulting in a reduction in anti-social behaviour. As a result of increased pedestrian activity, many businesses have extending their trading hours and several new businesses have opened.
